Maker of Things
I’m a full-time product designer and instructor. Outside of Love Circular, I spend most of my time writing React and CSS; at the moment, I’m working on styling the blog part of my personal website. If I’m not in front of a screen, I’m usually hiking.
After getting a bachelor in Communication, Media, and Culture in the UK, I moved to New Zealand to study graphic and web design. I had an amazing tutor with industry experience, which was invaluable, and something the Love Circular instructors definitely bring to the table.
When I completed my studies I went on to work for an agency whose main clients were high-profile US entertainment companies. The highlight of my career was probably when Terry Crews promoted a website I made for one of his shows!
As a woman in tech, I’m fully aware of the work that still needs to be done when it comes to making the industry welcoming for everyone. I’m grateful to get the chance to help our students reach their goals and bring their perspective to the industry.
I also love that I get to contribute some of my accessibility knowledge to future designers and promote best practices. I wouldn’t call myself an accessibility expert, as there is so much to learn, but I definitely consider myself an advocate. It’s important to me that my designs don’t make anyone feel excluded.
Hiking in the mountains near my home village, usually with Alba, then going for a swim in the river.
La Grande Bellezza, by Paolo Sorrentino. I think it falls somewhere between cinema and poetry. The Mediterranean landscapes make me feel at home, and the score includes a song based on the Robert Burns poem My Heart’s in the Highlands, which is fitting since I live in Scotland now!
I can’t share a song that defines me, that’s too personal! At the moment, I’m listening to Low, by Lenny Kravitz.
